Marc du Plantier

He was a philosopher, mathematician, interior designer, furniture designer, entertainer, world traveller, painter…and the list goes on. A man wise beyond his years (b. 1901) who created designs that exceeded the trends and styles of his day. His use of materials and visionary eye for design allowed him to create cherished interior designs that are yet to be rivalled. Sotheby’s is currently offering a glimpse into a private collection of many of his best furniture pieces. We feel inspired…

5 de mayo

We felt inspired this cinco de mayo to create a collection of embroidered napkins inspired by the Otomi embroidery from Mexico. The use of bold colours, animals and flowers creates a beautiful embroidered story for the table. See our Mexican mood board below…

Birth of Breton

It’s Spring and Breton stripes have come out to play. The classic design is timeless and forever chic. The Breton stripe shirt was first introduced in 1858 as the uniform for all French navy sailors in Northern France. The original design featured 21 stripes, one for each of Napoleon Bonaparte’s victories with the idea that the distinctive stripes made it easier to spot overboard sailors.

In 1917, Coco Chanel drew inspiration from the French sailors and made Breton stripes fashionable with her Nautical Collection. In film, the Breton stripe was first worn in the 1953 Hollywood production, ‘The Wild One’ starring Marlon Brando and Lee Marvin. James Dean and Audrey Hepburn followed sporting Breton stripes in their films and the everlasting trend was born.

ILINKA Collection has now taken the Breton stripe to tableware with the Breton Collection, made with hand-cut strips of linen hand-sewn by Spanish artisans into tablecloths and napkins – perfect for your Spring/Summer tablescape!
