Our desire to splatter paint an IC white linen tablecloth is strong – just waiting for a client’s request! In the meantime we are enjoying the recently published, ‘Dinner with Jackson Pollock’. Full of handwritten recipes by Jackson; his artist wife, Lee Krasner; and many other close friends and family of the artist – it gives an insightful look into Pollock’s life and home. And, it inspired our visual mood board for dinner with JP…
If you are Swedish or know a Swede, in August it’s Crayfish Party time. This involves many key components:
1. EAT Crayfish (see a special recipe from Stockholm based Eriksberg’s Chef, John Hertz)
Cook to a full boil:
5 cups water
1/2 cup course salt
1/2 cup beer
2 suger cubes
Lots of crown dill, this is the most import part. Crown dill when dill goes into bloom (its the flowers of the dill plant)
Cook the crayfish for 10 mins
Remove crayfish after 10 mins and place them into ice bath to let them cool
Take the cooking liquid and let it cool off completely, then place the crayfish back in the cooled liquid
Place them in the refrigerator till being served
Serve the crayfish at room temp
*Recipe for 20 crayfish and will keep for at least a week in the refrigerator
2. DRINK Snaps – the strong liquor of choice ‘sipped’ (this is a very important tip) after singing…
3. SING Swedish drinking songs
4. WEAR Party Hats – might look cheesy but they are a must
5. USE Lots and lots of NAPKINS – we love our IC colour bordered monogrammed linen ones!

It is worth every plane, train and automobile ride to Axel Vervoordt’s studio outside Antwerp where you are immersed in his perfectly designed world.
Axel began his calling as a young boy collecting unique pieces while traveling with his father. Overtime, people admired his discoveries and began asking to buy items from his thoughtfully curated collection. Today, he has an interior design empire and aesthetic completely his own.
The stunning showroom is located on 3 floors in a large warehouse with a view of Axel V designed lofts, where every detail was designed by him. His ‘cabinet of curiosities’ fills two rooms with untouched (he does not believe in restoring the pieces he finds so they maintain their original character) antiques collected during his travels. There are rooms full of Axel-picked art, photography and of course his beautifully designed furniture.

When lounging by the pool this summer we’d like it to look a little like this…
“The Palazzo Margherita for me is a dream come true. Its magical gardens, the family gathering in the magnificent salon for whatever purpose; celebrations, intimate teas or evenings of films. It is a painted palace with frescoes on its ceilings and walls, palatial rooms with countless details, modern in terms of its systems, music and cinema available like hot and cold water; yet the patina of its epoch is preserved, and when the children are there, delight is everywhere.” – Francis Ford Coppola
Dream Here: Palazzo Margherita
