Hazz House, by Erin Bonnier

I knocked on the door that read ‘Asli Tunca’, and was led through a dark entry hallway opening into the most enchanting space one couldn’t have imagined existed from the modest cobblestone street. Beautifully lit by a long wall of glass doors leading to a secret garden hidden inside the concrete walls – we had reached an oasis in the heart of Istanbul.

Fresh strawberries dipped in chocolate rested on a bespoke mirrored table as the charming Belgian painter and sculptor, Carl Vercauteren, greeted us with champagne in vintage Belgian crystal glasses I’m forever trying to locate to this day.  While admiring each beautifully curated detail, I glanced up to see Asli glide elegantly down the grandest of staircases in a flowing white to-the-floor dress, gracefully smoking a cigarette like a 1940s star destined for the screen – It was a scene straight from the pages of Vogue.

5 years have passed since that first meeting and I have grown to know Asli and Carl well, seeing their home and showroom continue to develop into something even more interesting and mesmerising than the transformation before.  Their latest evolution is Hazz – a boutique hotel in the centre of Istanbul’s liveliest quarter, with such a fitting name considering ‘Hazz’ is Turkish for ‘enchantment’.  Yes, their truly one-of-a-kind [for lack of a better word] 19th century mansion is now open to the public with 4 completely unique rooms; where every detail has been thoughtfully analysed, designed and created by the dream design duo themselves.

During a visit to Hazz you may stumble upon a private dinner among close friends in the main reception room, followed by late night dancing to French techno that you are more than welcome to join; meet a famous fashion designer smoking in the secret garden; or wake in the morning to find Carl and the cats sipping Turkish coffee and eating the most divine homemade Turkish treats.  Always expect the unexpected. This is why Hazz is beyond extraordinary and special; and to me, will always be the ultimate home away from home.

Tablescape Heaven

Chanel’s Pre-Fall 2015 show was divine in every possible way. Obviously the clothes were beautiful, but what really got us were the decadent, gorgeous tablescapes placed throughout the Salzburg themed backdrop [think Sound of Music meets Chanel]. It’s our ultimate inspiration for our holiday table this year. We have ILINKA Collection hand-stitched white linen tablecloths on standby!

Bailey’s Got Soul

We fell even deeper in love with Burberry Prorsum’s “Bloomsbury Girls” Autumn/Winter 2014 collection at a Sotheby’s private exhibition recently, where Christopher Bailey’s dreamy creations were shown among Brian Ferry’s personal collection of Bloomsbury art. The hand-painted brushstroke shapes and patterns on the bags, shoes and ethereal dresses were all inspired by Charleston, the country home of artists Vanessa Bell and Duncan Grant, where they painted enchanting murals and shapes across the walls, mantles, doors and their canvases. Bailey’s vision for this collection was to be “Soulful” – by far this is one of the most moving fashion collections we’ve seen lately…already set a date to visit Charleston and the Burberry store. Feeling truly inspired!

Swan Somethings

After a recent weekend away in the English countryside where our house looked out onto a lake full of black and white swans, the fascination with these beautiful creatures lead to the discovery that they symbolise an abundance of positivity: Love, Balance, Beauty, Grace, Peace, Tranquility, Longevity and are even thought to be a good omen – bringing wealth and prestige when you stumble upon them.  It’s not a surprise considering no matter how often you catch a glimpse of one, they still manage to strike you with their elegance and beauty.  In honour of the majestic bird, this post is dedicated to all things swan inspired…

Afternoon Delight

A trip to London is not complete without indulging in afternoon tea where a plethora of cakes, sandwiches, scones, clotted cream and of course tea overwhelm your senses (in an amazing, very full way!). With the holidays approaching and friends + family visiting, this is the perfect quintessential British thing to recommend. Check out our short […]

Costume Crush

With Halloween just weeks away, where do you find cool costumes for your kids you both will love that they can wear and play dress-up in for months to come?  While searching for inspiration and ideas for our IC little ones we discovered these creations we couldn’t resist sharing…

For the under twos Mini Rodini has cool, functional childrenswear with a dress-up twist, including this below Expedition Alaska Overall and Bear Onesie.  Stella McCartney Kids’ current collection has a beyond hip David Bowie look and sweet little bunny outfit complete with rabbit shoes great for everyday.  One of our favourite discoveries is Woven Play that has by far the most unique collection of chic costumes for kids we’ve seen.  We especially love the cowgirl crop, cowboy, space voyager and pirate looks.  And for the creative DIY parents we are loving the chic crown and feather headdress below.  Of course at the end of the day we have no control over their requests for Spider-Man and Princess Elsa from Frozen, but we are keeping our fingers crossed!
